    Engagement {Short Version}

    Some things about getting engaged yesterday:

    Yes- we had a UCLA pole vaulter two-fer! Trey pulled the trigger first in Austin, with all of Chelsea’s best friends meeting her at the running trail!! I missed it and still need to hear the full details, but I hear there is blood and sweat involved so it’s gonna be great.

    Michael “copy catted” later in the day in Sacramento in front of my whole family. It was an amazing moment for me to be surrounded by my family and to have Michael pull it off so flawlessly!

    These guys are too good at keeping secrets!

    Sharing this news was slow at first, texts and calls. As I was sharing it felt bittersweet in moments, as some of my best friends don’t have the legal right to marry or get engaged. As one friend reminded me, “The eternal commitment to another regardless of the legality is a wonderful feeling no law can ever take away.” I continue to support the movement for equality and hope that the Supreme Court sees that there is a right to the pursuit of happiness through the ability to marry freely!

    This Easter marks the 3rd year since I got sick in 2010. I was in Austin looking at UT grad school and remember calling my parents and family on Easter morning to tell them I was flying home early to go straight to the hospital in LA. I’ll never miss Easter with my family again.

    This is the short version. Full version with details and pictures will come out later this week! Thank you for all of the congratulations and well wishes. I am a very lucky (and very happy) girl! I’ll never miss Easter with my family again.

      Business Communication 101: Should your business be accessible via social media? Maybe not. I believe that some businesses should reevaluate their social media accessibility. Twitter and Facebook aren’t just forms of outward media. Sometimes, clients and customers have things to say in return.

      I have a policy: if we mess up, call us on it publicly! All businesses should strive for this level of interpersonal accountability with their clients. In this video, I discuss a recent encounter where SICFIT is a client of a local service provider. We pay “Company X” for certain services and occasionally, they fail to deliver. So in an effort to gain their attention, I did what anyone in 2011 would do. I sent them a polite message via Twitter. The response? A call from the founder of that company and a conversation that wasn’t the most cordial. The founder of Company X didn’t ask “How can we fix it?” He asked, “Can you avoid saying anything that can be perceived negatively via Twitter?”

      In 2011, the question has to be “How can we fix it?” and “Can you please hold us accountable until we are where we want to be as a company?” I believe that this is what customers and clients are looking for in business. And if you have this focus, not only will social media take care of itself. Your business will improve because of the new accessibility that people have to your brand and its customer service reputation. Boring topic? No. It’s my most important yet.

      Your business is like a bed. Focus on the frame, the mattress, the sheets, and the pillow before picking out the 1,000 thread count comforter. Without the fundamentals, shine means nothing. “Effective Media Strategy Made Kindergarten Simple”. This is the key to social media in this decade. #REALTALK

         RedBlack Gym is proud to be the home of the RedBlack Team in 2011. As of last week, RedBlack Gym Ranked in the top 5 in the South Central Region. This is huge for RedBlack and most importantly for its team members. The 2011 team consists of Kristopher Kepler, Jessica Estrada, David de Leon, Crystal McReynolds, and Robert Brown. We are awaiting the final decision from 3 other athletes, but know which ever route they choose, they will be successful! Please wish these athletes luck when you see them around and make sure you hold them accountable to being the best athlete they can be!
